Stephen Chen

Associate Professor of Psychology

Stephen H. Chen, PhD is Associate Professor of Psychology at Wellesley College. His scholarship bridges clinical, cultural, and developmental psychology, examining how cultural and family processes shape mental health and development across the lifespan. His research focuses particularly on underserved and underrepresented communities, exploring culture and emotion, social status, multilingual family relationships, and racial-ethnic and religious-spiritual identities. At Wellesley, he teaches courses in Asian American psychology, cultural psychology, and culture and emotion. He also serves on the editorial boards of Child Development, Developmental Psychology, and the Journal of Research on Adolescence. He earned his PhD from the University of California, Berkeley.
