2020 Distinguished Alumnus Awardee – Jung-Sook Lee

Alumni

Lee (PhD 1997), a church historian, Reformation scholar, and theological educator, received the Distinguished Alumnus Award at Princeton Seminary’s 2021 Reunion, held virtually from May 10–12.

The award honors her pioneering leadership in theological education and her contributions to the global Reformed tradition. After earning her PhD in Church History from Princeton Seminary in 1997, Lee became the first woman to serve as president of Torch Trinity Graduate University in Seoul, where she continues to teach and shape future church leaders.

Originally called to the mission field, Lee’s path shifted through a series of unexpected events—ultimately leading her to study under Princeton professors Jane Dempsey Douglass and Elsie Anne McKee. Her research on John Calvin focuses on his pastoral work in Geneva and the power of preaching to shape faith.

“Life can be tough,” she said, “but we can maintain our integrity in the Lord.”
