Overview

The Office of Digital Initiatives in Wright Library builds and curates digital library collections, creates web-based applications for access and use of those collections, and drives technological innovation in support of the library’s mission.

What is the difference between digital collections and library databases?

The digital collections listed below were digitized from physical library materials, and all are available at no cost for anyone with an Internet connection and a web browser.

By contrast, library e-books, e-journals, and databases contain primarily fee-based content that is licensed to libraries by commercial publishers for restricted institutional use.

Theological Commons

The Theological Commons is a digital library of over 150,000 resources on theology and religion. Developed in partnership with the Internet Archive, the Theological Commons contains books, journals, audio recordings, photographs, manuscripts, and other formats dating from 975 C.E. to the present.

This collection will expand over time as more of Wright Library’s holdings are digitized and as we incorporate relevant materials digitized by other academic libraries and partnering organizations.

Abraham Kuyper Digital Archive

This digital representation of Kuyper’s complete archive (over 100,000 pages), was originally developed at Princeton Theological Seminary in cooperation with the Historical Documentation Center for Dutch Protestantism at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, where the physical archive is housed. The digital archive is hosted by The Neo-Calvinism Research Institute in Kampen.

Digital Lending

Through its digitization partnership with Internet Archive, Wright Library has digitized books for online access that previously could only be checked out in person. These books can be borrowed digitally by one person at a time, for a limited time period.

Original Digital Library

Digitized materials from our original digital library, created in 2006 (prior to the creation of the Theological Commons), are still available from other locations.

Searching

Theological Commons and Abraham Kuyper Bibliography have their own websites that provide search capability. In Theological Commons, formats that contain printed text (books, journals, audio transcripts, etc.) allow searching the full text of those materials, in addition to their descriptive bibliographic records (title, author, etc.). See Search Help for details.

Search results from Summon, the main search box on the library’s home page, include items from Theological Commons, Abraham Kuyper Bibliography, and Digital Lending, in addition to many other sources of content. Searches performed in Summon encompass the bibliographic records, not the full text. To search across only these three digital collections, use the button below.
