Workshop: Ending Sexual Violence in Black Church Communities

October 11, 2019 @ 12:00 am - October 12, 2019 @ 11:59 pm

WomanPreach! Inc. and Children of Combahee are joined together in partnership with the Center for Black Church Studies at Princeton Theological Seminary to host “Ending Sexual Violence in Black Church Communities,” a workshop for resourcing and sermon writing.

Our time together will consist of in-depth training about the movement to end sexual violence nationally, including presentation of background information on what sexual violence is, what sexual violence looks like and how churches have enshrined safe space for its perpetuation and persistence. Additionally, we will cultivate tools for transforming rape culture in religious spaces including but not limited to church covenants, protocol, child safety measures, and resources and workshops for writing and preaching theologically sound and responsible sermons addressing and prophetically naming the evil of sexual violence from the pulpit.

Featured speakers include Rev. Dr. Eboni Marshall Turman, assistant professor of theology and African American religion at Yale Divinity School, and Rev. Dr. Valerie Bridgeman, dean and vice president of academic affairs at the Methodist Theological School of Ohio.
