The Daniel L. Migliore Distinguished Presidential Award for Faithful Leadership

Award Description

The Daniel L. Migliore Distinguished Presidential Award for Faithful Leadership is the highest annual honor bestowed by the Office of the President of Princeton Theological Seminary. Named in tribute to beloved theologian and teacher Professor Daniel L. Migliore, this award celebrates individuals whose lives and work embody the very heart of Christian discipleship—courageous leadership, theological depth, and faithful service in the world.

Rooted in the spirit of Professor Migliore’s legacy and shaped by the enduring phrase drawn from his seminal work, Faith Seeking Understanding, this award recognizes those who do not merely profess belief, but actively pursue the life of the mind in service to the church and the world. Recipients are exemplars of Christian wisdom, compassion, and integrity—those whose leadership flows from their theological convictions and bears witness to the redemptive power of the Gospel in their communities and vocations.

This award may be given to alums, faculty, staff, trustees, partners in ministry, or friends of the Seminary, regardless of denominational affiliation, who demonstrate extraordinary commitment to the cause of Christ, the flourishing of God’s people, and the renewal of the world.

Nominees for the Daniel L. Migliore Distinguished Presidential Award for Faithful Leadership should meet one or more of the following criteria:

Award Presentation:

The Daniel L. Migliore Distinguished Presidential Award for Faithful Leadership will be presented annually at one of three signature events:

  1. Alumni Reunions: Ideal for recipients with Seminary connections—alums, former faculty, or partners in ministry whose stories inspire the broader alumni community.
  2. The Annual Fundraising Gala (or President’s Dinner): Best suited for broader audiences, particularly recipients whose impact exemplifies the Seminary’s values on a national or global stage.
  3. The Annual Board Chair’s Dinner: Best suited for recipients whose leadership, vocation, or public witness merits recognition in a more intimate setting with trustees, senior leaders, and invited guests. This setting is especially appropriate for recipients whose work reflects the Seminary’s highest ideals and offers meaningful opportunities for board-level engagement, presidential hospitality, and institutional relationship-building.

Nomination and Selection Process:

  • Nominations will be solicited annually from faculty, trustees, alumni leaders, and senior staff.
  • A Presidential Selection Committee, chaired by the President and including 3–4 advisors from academic and advancement leadership, will review nominations and recommend a recipient by early spring.
  • The honoree will be notified privately and invited to the award ceremony, with public announcements to follow.
