Alumni and Friends of Princeton Theological Seminary are cordially invited by Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church in New York City to attend The Gotto Lecture in their sanctuary on Thursday, November 12, at 6pm. Live streaming is also available.
Renowned physician-scientist Dr. Francis Collins will deliver the Anita and Antonio Gotto Lecture.
A reception for Alumni and Friends at the church will immediately follow, hosted by the Office of Alumni Relations.

Dr. Francis S. Collins is a physician–scientist whose career has been defined by a commitment to human dignity, ethical leadership, and service. As Director of the National Institutes of Health from 2009 to 2021, he helped guide the nation’s biomedical research enterprise through moments of profound uncertainty, advising three U.S. presidents while keeping public trust and human impact at the center of decision-making.
In his early scientific career, he discovered the gene for cystic fibrosis. Then he led an international collaboration that first mapped the entire human genome. For that work he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the National Medal of Science. In 2009 he was appointed as Director of the National Institutes of Health, where he served three presidents, until 2021, including oversight of the country’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Collins is best known for leading the Human Genome Project, a global effort that transformed medicine by unlocking the genetic foundations of disease. Yet his legacy extends far beyond scientific achievement. Throughout his career, he has focused on how discovery translates into care, equity, and real-world benefit for people and communities.
In 2006, Collins wrote the best-selling book The Language of God. It tells the story of his journey from atheism to Christian belief, showing that science actually enhances faith. The tremendous response to the book prompted Collins to found BioLogos. He envisioned it as a forum to discuss issues at the intersection of faith and science and to celebrate the harmony found there. His reputation quickly attracted a large network of faith leaders, including Tim Keller, Philip Yancey, and NT Wright. BioLogos is now an organization that reaches millions around the world.
In celebration of his world-class scientific accomplishments and deep Christian faith, Collins was awarded the Templeton Prize in 2020. His most recent book is The Road To Wisdom; on Truth, Science, Faith, and Trust.
