In this Festival of Singing we will explore songs from our new hymnal, One Lord, One Faith, One Baptism: An African American Ecumenical Hymnal, edited by Dr. James Abbington (GIA Publications, 2018). Abbington is Professor of Church Music and Worship at the Candler School of Theology (Emory University). He is the Executive Editor of the African American Church Music Series (GIA Publications) and has served as the Co-director of the Hampton University Ministers’ and Musicians’ Conference since 2000. He is joined by Dr. Brandon Boyd, the Assistant Director of Choral Activities and Assistant Professor of Choral Music Education at the University of Missouri. An avid proponent of group singing that builds community, he has organized choirs in senior centers, homeless shelters, and prisons.
Members of Princeton Seminary’s Gospel Choir and Chapel Choir as well as members of the Trenton Children’s Chorus will share in the leadership of this Festival of Singing. However, this will not be an event at which the audience will be ‘sung to.’ Rather, we will all create community together through singing songs, old and new. Come, sing with us!
This event is free and open to the public.
