An Evening with Dutch Music Treasures: Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck and Jacob van Eyck

March 4, 2022 @ 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Meta gambrell room

This evening is a special Dutch music program offered by organist Mina Choi (MDiv, 2016) and recorder player John H. Burkhalter III. Together with an ensemble of Seminary Singers, they will introduce musical treasures from two of the best-known musicians of the Dutch Golden Age: Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck (1562 – 1621) and Jacob van Eyck (1590 – 1657). Sweelinck’s well-known organ variations were transcribed for the descant recorder by van Eyck. This concert will present both organ and recorder variations sharing the same tunes enabling listeners to compare and contrast the styles of performance practice, as well as a psalm motet for choir by Sweelinck. This event will also feature the recently installed Paul Fritts Op. 21 organ in the Scheide Hall of the Princeton Theological Seminary.

Space is limited and reservations are required. Please email chapel.office@ptsem.edu to make a reservation.
