E. Trey Clark is assistant professor of preaching at Princeton Theological Seminary, where his research and teaching focus on homiletics and Christian spirituality. His scholarship retrieves overlooked figures, practices, and traditions within and beyond the Black church as theological resources for holistic formation, proclamation, and prophetic witness.
Clark is the author of Black Contemplative Preaching: A Hidden History of Prayer, Proclamation, and Prophetic Witness (Baylor University Press, 2024). He is currently co-editing A Searching Moment: Howard Thurman as Preacher, Liturgist, and Spiritual Guide with Jennifer Ackerman and Luke A. Powery. He serves on the editorial boards of Spiritus and Homiletic.
He studied at Wheaton College and Fuller Theological Seminary, where he earned the MDiv and PhD, and subsequently trained as a spiritual director at San Francisco Theological Seminary. Prior to joining Princeton Seminary, he taught at Fuller Seminary for five years and served in pastoral ministry for twelve years in Southern California.
