Move-in day can be a whirlwind of emotions, activity, and logistics. While arriving on the right day and time is important, it’s just the beginning. Here are some move-in tips from the Office of Student Life and the Office of Residential Life, to help make the day run a bit more smoothly.
Before you leave:
Join campus communities on Facebook. Ahead of arrival, students can join their incoming class groups on Facebook as well as the PTSem Community or CRW/Witherspoon groups. The PTSem Buy-Sell-Trade group is another great resource for those living on campus.
Complete paperwork ahead of time. Be sure to complete the necessary forms if bringing a spouse, dependent(s), or pet(s) to live on campus. Emotional support animals are welcome, and while the one-time pet deposit is waived for them, they still must be reported to the Office of Residential Life.
Make accommodations for family and friends. Anyone helping with move-in is welcome to stay in the student’s CRW apartment for up to seven days, if needed. Alternatively, there are many hotels within walking distance of the apartments and campus.
Dress comfortably and prepare for the weather. Move-in day can be long and tiring. Dress for the weather with comfortable clothing and shoes and carry some water to beat the heat. Remember, there will be a lot of time spent outdoors.
When you get here:
Keep your phone handy. It’s helpful for checking email updates throughout the day and taking notes on new information and contacts.
Need help on site? Each building will have a deacon assigned to help with move-in and answer questions (they’ll be easy to spot in their royal blue t-shirts). Student helpers and administrators will also be on site, wearing shirts to identify themselves as staff, and international students can look for Global Services personnel in department t-shirts. Don’t be shy. Approach any of these folks with additional questions.
Make use of storage. Each CRW apartment has a dedicated storage closet next to the unit as well as a storage cage near the elevators.
Meet with administrators. During lunch on move-in days, administrators from all over the Seminary—from admissions to continuing education—will be available to answer questions and meet students. Take this opportunity to make some valuable connections on campus.
Troubleshooting:
Running behind? The Office of Public Safety, located in Templeton Hall, is open 24 hours a day. Make sure to call them at 609-497-7777 if running behind or arriving at an odd hour. Students that know they’re arriving after 4 p.m. should email Residential Life and Public Safety, and call Public Safety when they arrive for assistance.
If you need repairs, contact the facilities team at facilities@ptsem.edu or 609-497-7778.
If you need to reach a member of the Office of Residential Life, email residential.life@ptsem.edu (preferred, especially on move-in day), call 609-497-7730, or visit Templeton Hall room 204, located in the Student Life suite. For in-person meetings on move-in day, be sure to make an appointment via email.
