The Rev. Dr. Nicole Massie Martin, MDiv ’06, was unanimously elected by the Christianity Today Board of Directors to serve as the nonprofit global media ministry’s new president and CEO.
Martin has been affiliated with Christianity Today since 2021, when she joined the Board of Directors. In 2023, she transitioned to the role of chief impact officer before most recently serving as chief operating officer.
“I take seriously the responsibility to lead in ways that honor God and uplift the people I lead and serve,” she said when reflecting on her new leadership position. “The role has also given way to increased layers of visibility, which have been daunting at times, but encouraging as I recognize my capacity to impact lives through a larger platform. It also means new opportunities to lead in new ways, to learn new skill sets, and to expand the legacy of a brand that I believe is necessary for our times.”
Founded in 1956, Christianity Today reaches 40 million people each year, advancing the stories and ideas of the kingdom of God through in-depth reporting, commentary, and redemptive storytelling.

Martin, who has been a Christianity Today subscriber since her seminary days, said she was compelled by the publication’s mission to tell transformative stories that help readers make sense of the world through a biblical lens. Since becoming president and CEO in November, she has continued to focus on expanding Christianity Today’s reach to a younger and more diverse audience, while also focusing on strengthening budgetary stewardship and improving her remote team’s sense of connectivity “so that every member feels like they are part of something impactful and meaningful and larger than themselves.”
“Our strategy will include clearly defining our audience, reshaping our mission with urgency, and clarifying what we can do that no one else can,” she said.
Martin has more than 25 years of nonprofit, academic, ministry leadership, and church engagement experience. Before joining the leadership team of Christianity Today, she served as senior vice president of ministry impact at the American Bible Society. Throughout her career she has served in a number of executive and leadership roles, including executive minister at The Park Church and assistant professor of ministry and leadership development at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary.
Martin is the founder and executive director of Soulfire International Ministries, which provides resources for pastors, churches, and younger leaders to help them reach their highest potential in Christ. She is the author of three books, including Nailing It: Why Successful Leadership Demands Suffering and Surrender; Made to Lead: Empowering Women for Ministry; and Leaning In, Letting Go: A Lenten Devotional.
She also holds leadership positions on the boards of the National Association of Evangelicals, Fuller Theological Seminary, the Center for Christianity and Public Life, and PastorServe, a ministry that supports church leaders. She is also a member of the Salvation Army’s National Advisory Board.
Martin says her ministry has been deeply impacted by the foundational lessons she learned as a student at Princeton Theological Seminary.
“I learned the value of seeing every part of my life as an opportunity to operate in my calling,” she said. “I learned not to bifurcate myself into personal and professional, but to weave them together in a sense of collective impact.”
