Princeton Theological Seminary mourns the loss of two long-time faculty members — Professor Emeritus Daniel L. Migliore, MDiv ’59, who died on March 2, 2026, and Professor Scott H. Hendrix, James Hastings Nichols Professor Emeritus of Reformation History and Doctrine, who passed away on February 15, 2026.
A member of the faculty for more than five decades, Migliore joined Princeton Theological Seminary in 1966 and retired as the Charles Hodge Chair of Systematic Theology. A distinguished Reformed theologian, he was widely respected for his scholarship, his service to the global church, and his enduring commitment to theological education.
Migliore’s teaching and writing shaped generations of students and contributed significantly to contemporary systematic theology. Known for his clarity, intellectual rigor, and pastoral sensibility, he helped form pastors, scholars, and church leaders who continue to serve Christ’s Church around the world.
Last year, the Seminary established the Daniel L. Migliore Distinguished Presidential Award for Faithful Leadership and honored Migliore as the inaugural recipient. The award recognizes the Seminary’s highest ideals of excellence, pastoral humility, and faithful Christian living.
An internationally renowned theologian and church historian, a dedicated mentor, and a valued member of the Seminary’s academic community, Hendrix served as a faculty member from 1998 until his retirement in 2007. His scholarship on Martin Luther and the Reformation shaped the field for decades and enriched the Seminary’s commitment to rigorous historical and theological inquiry.
Hendrix’s legacy endures through the generations of students he taught, the scholars he mentored, and the many pastors and historians whose work has been informed by his teaching and research.
“Please join me in extending our deepest condolences and prayers to Professor Migliore’s and Professor Hendrix’s families during this difficult time. May their memory be a blessing to this community they served so faithfully as we rest in the promise of eternal life in Christ and take comfort in the hope of the Resurrection,” wrote Dr. Jonathan Lee Walton, president of Princeton Theological Seminary, in a message to the Seminary community.
