Asian Americans have some of the lowest rates of treatment for mental health issues while also experiencing high rates of mental distress (44%) and serious mental illness (6%). On January 24, 2022, the Center for Asian American Christianity hosted a virtual conference titled Mental Health and Asian Americans: Contexts and Strategies for Faith Leaders. The conference provided research-based strategies for ministry leaders to help strengthen their communities, equipping ministry leaders and church staff to better care for members of their congregations. Morning plenary sessions were followed by afternoon workshops led by professionals with academic and clinical experience relating to Asian Americans, mental health, and church ministries.
Speakers and workshop leaders included individuals from Davis Community Church, Harvard University, San Francisco State University, Seattle Pacific University, and The Living Counsel Ltd, and the University of Denver.
