Juneteenth commemorates the end of slavery in the United States and will be observed on June 19, 2022. While the Emancipation Proclamation was issued in 1863, it would be a full two years later before the news reached Blacks living in Texas. It was a day of celebration and rejoicing.On this day, we join the ancestors in acknowledging our painful past, celebrating a resilient hope in spite of the challenges of this moment, and renewing our commitment to the still incomplete pursuit of freedom and equality before us.
