Juneteenth commemorates the end of slavery in the United States and will be observed on June 19, 2022. While the Emancipation Proclamation was issued in 1863, it would be a full two years later before the news reached Blacks living in Texas. It was a day of celebration and rejoicing.
On this day, we join the ancestors in acknowledging our painful past, celebrating a resilient hope in spite of the challenges of this moment, and renewing our commitment to the still incomplete pursuit of freedom and equality before us. Let us march on till victory is won!
