Rev. Deanna Hollas will give a lecture as part of Constitution Day, September 17, at 5 p.m. in the Theron Room of the Princeton Theological Seminary Library. Her lecture is titled, “The Second Amendment: A Pastoral Response.”
Gun violence inflicts trauma on everyone who lives in or visits the United States yet its prevalence in our cities reflects this country’s long-standing systemic and structural inequalities that have been present since its founding. Hollas will talk about the great opportunity she sees for churches to reclaim their role as peacemakers and healers while exploring the history of the Second Amendment. She will provide tools to help you lead the communities you serve through becoming informed and active in the prevention of gun violence.
Hollas holds a Master of Divinity from Perkins School of Theology and a Diploma in the Art of Spiritual Direction from San Francisco Theological Seminary. In addition to her work as a Dallas gun violence prevention activist, she is co-founder of Retreat House Spirituality Center in Richardson, Texas, which is a covenant community of spiritual directors. Hollas was recently named the first minister of gun violence prevention by the Presbyterian Church (USA). “No matter where you fall on this issue,” she said, “the important thing is that we remain in conversation with one another.”
