An annual tradition of international celebration at Princeton Theological Seminary, Carols of Many Nations took place on Wednesday, December 7, 2022. Seminary community members presented scripture lessons and the Chapel Choir performed choral anthems and carols from around the world. New songs added to this year’s service included Alfred Fedak’s setting of the Sylvia Dustan poem, Christus Paradox, and the Morehouse Glee Club arrangement of the traditional Yoruba (Nigeria) Christmas song Betelehemu, which was directed by student conductor Otis Byrd Jr. Perennial favorites, including Canticle of the Turning, and a choral processional accompanying Joy to the World, also appeared in this year’s performance. Student soloists Jessica Figueroa and Henry Burt accompanied the jubilant Cuban arrangement of Tres Guajiros, while student soloist Jade Hage performed Laylat al milad in Arabic. Languages sung or spoken during this year’s concerts included Japanese, Spanish, Swedish, Igbo, Telugu, Yoruba, Korean, Kachin, Arabic, Malayalam, German, French, Indonesian, and English.
