Much of the work that has been done on the doctrine of creation in recent decades has been informed by environmental concerns. And conversely, much eco-theology has paid particular attention to the creation texts and cosmologies.
Early Christian theologies may offer (perhaps unexpected) resources for thinking theologically today about these themes, but may also open onto theological terrain that is less familiar to contemporary readers. These texts provide highly varied approaches the doctrine of creation in terms of methods of biblical interpretation, homiletical intents, and the cosmological frameworks that inform them.
Understanding the context in which they are produced and attending to the views of creation that they yield, we will also explore how these early texts may speak to contemporary environmental attitudes toward the earth and eco-theologies.
