Lights, Camera, Faith: Brit Whittle’s Path from Acting to Seminary
Brit Whittle possessed a lifelong passion for acting but now feels an equally fervent call to ministry. For over 20 years, this New York thespian has sustained a successful career in stage, film, and television. Yet he has also felt a steady call toward God and faith. In fact, that call began in his Georgia childhood through church theatre. Today, Brit is studying full-time ministry at Princeton Theological Seminary and feels he is finally where he belongs.
Rev. Mark DeVries, MDiv ’86, to be Honored with 2026 Distinguished Alumni Award
The Rev. Mark DeVries, MDiv ’86, arrived at Princeton Theological Seminary a “fundamentalist” intent on protecting the truth as he saw it. He left with an expansive and evolving view of ministry that shaped the rest of his professional and personal life, one that creates space where others can discern, experiment, and lead. This May, DeVries will receive the 2026 Distinguished Alumni Award at Reunion to honor the significant impact his work has had in the field of youth and family ministry, as well as with congregations and ministry organizations throughout the world.
From First-Generation Student to Scholar: How Princeton Seminary Broadened Her Faith and Career
Casey Lynn Smith, PhD ’25, MTS ’17, was a first-generation college student at a small Christian university in Tennessee when her professors offered some advice that surprised her. They told her she should go to graduate school. “I think I said to them, ‘What’s that?’” Smith said. Smith, homeschooled and raised in a conservative Pentecostal denomination, never imagined she’d become a history scholar. But she went on to earn two degrees from Princeton Theological Seminary, developing a distinctive research specialty that explores gender, and sexuality.
FDNY Chaplain Pamela Holmes-Saxton, MDiv ’14, to be Honored with 2026 Alumni Service Award
Whether praying at the site of a three-alarm fire, visiting the bedside of an injured firefighter or EMS worker, or delivering an invocation, the Rev. Pamela Holmes-Saxton, MDiv ’14, is a source of spiritual support for the largest fire department in the US. As one of just a handful of New York City Fire Department (FDNY) chaplains, she and her colleagues serve more than 11,000 firefighters, 4,500 EMTs, paramedics and EMS officers, and their families during some of the most emotional moments in their lives.
Rev. Dr. Nicole Massie Martin, MDiv ’06, Named CEO of Christianity Today
The Rev. Dr. Nicole Massie Martin, MDiv ’06, was unanimously elected by the Christianity Today Board of Directors to serve as the nonprofit global media ministry’s new president and CEO. Martin has been affiliated with Christianity Today since 2021, when she joined the Board of Directors. In 2023, she transitioned to the role of chief impact officer before most recently serving as chief operating officer.
In Memoriam: Professors Migliore and Hendrix
Princeton Theological Seminary mourns the loss of two long-time faculty members — Professor Emeritus Daniel L. Migliore, MDiv ’59, who died on March 2, 2026, and Professor Scott H. Hendrix, James Hastings Nichols Professor Emeritus of Reformation History and Doctrine, who passed away on February 15, 2026. A member of the faculty for more than five decades, Migliore joined Princeton Theological Seminary in 1966 and retired as the Charles Hodge Chair of Systematic Theology.
