Polaris Spiritual Practices for Young Adult Leaders Micro-Certificate
The Spiritual Practices for Young Adult Leaders certificate invites young adult leaders (ages 23-32) into intentional spiritual practices that sustain faithful leadership. Through guided reflection, digital learning, live group conversation, and practical exercises, participants explore discernment, Sabbath, pilgrimage, and prayer to support their leadership, vocation, and spiritual well-being.
Designed for young adults navigating questions of calling, purpose, rest, and faithful action, these short-format courses offer space to slow down, listen deeply, and connect with others in reflective community. Current micro-courses focus on Christian discernment practices and Sabbath practices for leadership.

Christian Discernment Practices for Young Adults
Big questions got you feeling stuck? This 6-week virtual course provides the space to slow down, tune in, and figure out what God is calling you toward. Rooted in a story-based framework for Christian vocation, participants explore calling, gratitude, holy listening, and prayer through video content, journaling, and weekly live small group group discussions. Designed for young adults navigating pivotal questions of faith, vocation, and next steps. Estimated weekly commitment is 1.5-4 hours/week to allow time for group discussion, personal reflection, and prayer.
Sabbath Practices for Sustaining Leadership
In a culture of overwork, this 4-week course offers a sacred pause. Practicing Sabbath invites young adults into four weeks of rest, reflection, and reconnection with God and self. Through Sabbath-based practices, group liturgies, journaling, and curated readings, leaders learn to cultivate habits of wholeness that support lifelong leadership and prevent burnout. Ideal for those seeking spiritual renewal amidst the daily demands of leadership, this course cultivates communal rhythms of rest that are both theologically grounded and practically lived. Estimated weekly commitment is 4-6 hours/week. This group is peer-facilitated by participants and weekly meetings will be scheduled according to group preference.
Pilgrimage Practices for Spiritual and Leadership Growth
If you’re ready to take that next step — even if you’re not sure where it leads – this 6-week virtual course invites young adults into the ancient Christian practice of pilgrimage as a framework for spiritual growth, self-discovery, and faithful leadership. Pilgrimage practice is not just about travel; it’s about inviting transformation. Participants learn about the six stages of the Pilgrimage journey from Invitation to Wilderness to Return, and discover how God is at work in every step. Estimated weekly commitment is 3-6 hours/week to allow time for personal reflection, spiritual practices, and facilitated group connection.
Prayer Practices – Coming Soon
Does your prayer life need a refresh? This course will introduce you to new ways of understanding, practicing, and engaging in prayer. Participants can expect to develop a personal prayer practice, cultivate confidence in leading prayer, engage in prayer to connect with others, and understand prayer as public witness. Prayer is more than words—it invites us into new ways of being, thinking, and relating. Brenda Bertrand | Subject Matter Expert on Prayer

Brenda Bertrand | Subject Matter Expert on Prayer
Brenda learned to pray from her first theologians and spiritual directors: her mother and grandmother, Black women whose lives of prayer, justice, and love taught her that contemplation is never separate from love of neighbor. She has spent more than thirty years as an ordained minister, spiritual director, retreat leader, and university chaplain, walking with people as they learn to pray honestly, hear God clearly, discern what is next, and live more freely. Her work is spiritual liberation: helping people, especially people of color and communities the church has overlooked, release images of God that bind and reclaim a living conversation with the God who sees them. Brenda has led retreats and sacred pilgrimages around the world, and her own journey has carried her through more than forty countries. She hosts the podcast Guided: Hearing God’s Voice in a Noisy World and holds graduate degrees from Princeton Theological Seminary and the University of Texas. Raised in the Virgin Islands and rooted in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Brenda is proof that God plants deep roots in unexpected soil. When she is not teaching or walking with others, you will find her laughing with friends, hunting down the perfect matcha, or planning her next pilgrimage.
