SUMMARY:Prayer as Resistance 2.2: Notes of Rest with Julian Davis Reid
DESCRIPTION:Notes of Rest® invites the weary into the rest of God practiced in the Bible and Black music. The offering interweaves various spiritual disciplines (“notes”) such as Sabbath\, Sleep\, and Sanctuary with the playing and history of Black American music. Braiding these notes equips participants to solo over the chord changes of their lives\, harmonize their journeys with one another\, and resolve to practice rest and music that unifies us with God\, neighbor\, and self. As Jesus’ restful New Creation emerges out of this restless world\, Notes of Rest® provides hospitable space to discern our participation in it. \n>>Register for in-person or online attendance.  \nFriday\, March 7\n7:30 pm – Princeton Seminary Chapel – Evening Jazz Concert \nJoin us for a concert featuring Julian Davis Reid and a trio of jazz musicians. Check out past concert recordings:\n2023 and 2022. \nThis event is free and open to the public and will be livestreamed on YouTube. \nSaturday\, March 8\n10 am – Stuart Hall 6 – Retreat Session 1: Practicing the Scale \nIntroduction to Notes of Rest\, exploring music and theology for practical rest. Available virtually on Airmeet. \n12 pm – MacKay Student Center – Lunch Together \n1:30 pm – Stuart Hall 6 – Session 2: Playing in Time \nExploring the spiritual practice of discernment in relation to sleep. Available virtually on Airmeet. \n3:15 pm – Stuart Hall 6 – Session 3: Listening Back to Rehearsal \nA reflection on Sabbath practices and their evolution through Scripture.
