The Seminary gathered for worship in Miller Chapel on January 28 to begin the spring semester of the 2013–2014 academic year. Lisa Bowens, instructor of New Testament, preached the sermon, “Considering Our Call: Participants in God’s New Age—Identity and Unity Through Christ’s Death.“ Based on Isaiah 43:18, 19 and selected verses from I Corinthians chapters 1 and 11, the sermon reminded us of the unity we have to Jesus Christ. The music was led by the Seminary’s Martin Tel, C.F. Seabrook Director of Music and Michael Gittens, choral associate. They were joined by students, Eli Wilson III Jessica Winderweedle, and Adam Ogg. Jan Ammon, the Seminary’s Bryant M. Kirkland Minister of the Chapel, and Ph.D. chandidate, Francisco Pelaez-Diaz, presented at the table of the Lord’s supper. Professor Michael Brothers and students Isaac Kim and Erin Foster, were also part of the worship leadership for this service of word, sacrament, and song. Bowen’s message of unity was woven throughout the service ending with the community singing “We Are One in the Spirit.”
