20 Wagner.jpg (11904 bytes)J. Ross Wagner joined the Princeton Theological Seminary faculty in 1998 as an instructor in New Testament and was appointed assistant professor in 1999. Within his field, he specializes in Pauline studies, the Book of Hebrews, and the interpretation of scripture in the Second Temple period and in early Christianity.  Dr. Wagner  has been active teaching adult Sunday school, leading worship, singing in the choir, and assisting with ministries to the homeless.

His dissertation argues that Paul read large portions of Isaiah as a prefiguration of Paul’s own mission to the Gentiles. Because of Dr. Wagner’s fascination with the psalms and the way in which New Testament authors take some psalms to be the words of the Messiah, his next major project will be an investigation of the use of the psalms by New Testament authors and their Jewish contemporaries.
