Series Overview
Princeton Seminary PhD candidate Lisa M. Bowens invites participants to examine one of the major themes of Mark’s gospel: Discipleship. In various ways the writer of this gospel portrays what it means to be a disciple of Christ and what it means to be divinely interrupted by God and for God. Yet, Mark does not depict discipleship as an easy task. For Mark discipleship involves God’s totalizing claim upon our lives. We have been divinely interrupted for God’s purpose, called to constantly surrender ourselves to the One who continually interrupts our lives, to the One who refuses to let us go. Together, we will reflect on what it means to be God’s people in the world, journeying to discover who God calls us to be. This study invites its participants to engage in prayer, reflection, and openness to God’s Spirit and grace.

Bible Study Leader
Lisa M. Bowens is currently a PhD candidate in New Testament at Princeton Theological Seminary in Princeton, New Jersey. Her dissertation, “Engaging in Battle: Examining Paul’s Cosmology, Epistemology and Anthropology” places Paul in conversation with other ancient texts, such as the Testaments of the Twelve Patriarchs and the Hodayot. She has served as a teaching assistant in New Testament and Old Testament courses and as a Greek tutor at Princeton.
Registration
All people (laity, clergy, and the Seminary community) are welcome to attend. The registration fee for all six sessions is $50. Couples and groups of 3 or more pay $40. This includes program and refreshments.
